Video transcript: Signs of gambling harm

Maddy Prespakis: If you think a friend or a family member is betting too much, you may feel like you're losing them and want to help, but don't know how?

Most times there are signs there may be a problem.

These include if the person is unexpectedly moody, starts spending less time doing family things or stops going out.

They may start to talk about betting much more and seem obsessed over the odds when watching sport.

They may start to miss school or work.

The good news is lots of people take the first step towards getting help when they understand how much their betting is affecting people close to them.

If you're worried that someone has an issue with their betting, think about talking to a youth counsellor at the Gambler's Help Youthline on 1800 262 376.

Or, you can chat to a friend, family member, teacher or student welfare coordinator.

They can help you work out the best way to approach the situation.
